Why such a profound statement you ask? Well, a newspaper article I read in the morning triggered off this question ... A British pilot, a gentleman by the name Jonathan Arvind Singh (JAS), has been awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross in Britain, for having been brave enough to fly a broken Chinook helicopter under enemy fire in Afghanistan.
Well, OK, so his name is Indian - thanks to an Indian father Arbinder Singh, who probably had nothing to do with him, save contribution of the 'essence' that was born as JAS. His mother was an English teacher in India, who took away the baby back to England when he was 10 weeks old, and who has probably never set foot in India again. Add to that the fact that his maternal grandfather had also been awarded the same award decades back!
So, well, my question essentially is, why does an Indian newspaper like The Telegraph carry a front-page article about JAS and his award, when he has nothing to do with India, except have an Indian dad, who probably has had no inputs in his upbringing?!
Isn't this what we could call 'reflected glory'?!
